The Bay Colony Golf Club Story
1973
Visionary executives of Westinghouse Communities, Inc. (WCI) laid plans and began building their versions of Shangri-La in what were once overgrown mangroves and scrubby tomato fields.
Over the next two decades, the developer established Pelican Bay, Bay Colony and Pelican Marsh.
As a response to the growing demands for grand-scale estates homes in an uber-private setting, the Estates at Bay Colony and the championship Bay Colony Golf Course were developed as an extension of Bay Colony within a unique gated residential enclave in Pelican Marsh.
Since the beginning, the gated Estates at Bay Colony Golf Club, located within Pelican Marsh, and Bay Colony, located within Pelican Bay, were bound as one master community, the Bay Colony Community Association.
1996
Nine holes were added to each course to accommodate the demands of affluent empty nesters migrating South, and the Bay Colony Golf Club was established.
1997
The southern plantation style Bay Colony Golf Clubhouse was completed.
1996 - 1998
Bay Colony Golf Club played host to the Senior PGA Tour. Many a pro golfer was quoted as saying.
2001
WCI turned over Bay Colony Golf Club to the members. Since this time, Bay Colony Golf Club has been a pillar of financial strength and a benchmark of "best in class" executive leadership.
2013
Members of Bay Colony Golf Club delivered a 98% approval rating to move forward with "remastering the Masterpiece," a monumental restoration of the Bay Colony Golf Course in partnership with the original course architectural design firm of von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, now Smelek Design.
2014
A monumental restoration of the Bay Colony Golf Course is completed within budget and without any assessment to members.
Fairways, greens, tees, bunkers, bulkheads and cart paths are meticulously restored and refined, and three linear miles of trees and foliage are planted along the perimeter.
The Bay Colony Golf Course is among the finest courses I have ever played.
A restoration of this scope and magnitude has never been completed before in just over six months and within the budget allotted. Not ever. Not anywhere. Not in the history of golf, to the best knowledge of any professional associated with this extraordinary project.
A monumental achievement in golf course restoration is now recorded in the annuls of history.
2017
Inspired by the golden sun setting over the velvet-like golf course, the beautifully-refreshed Clubhouse welcomes members and their guests on Dec. 1. The elegant yet relaxing atmosphere accentuates the natural landscape with a light and airy color palette of soft golds, comforting grays and warm earth tones.
Floor-to-ceiling folding doors replace windows to create an indoor-outdoor dining experience connected to the covered terrace. New fire pits and casual seating invite members to linger and enjoy cocktails while watching magnificent sunsets.
Other striking features of the $4 million redesign of the 32,000-square-foot clubhouse include European white oak floors, an expanded Grille Room for casual dining, a new Board Room, and a new Wine Room for private dining and meetings.
Additions outdoors include two bocce ball courts with an outdoor pavilion as well as a resort-style kitchen and bar for casual patio dining with views overlooking the lake and 18th green.
2019
The atmosphere of casual elegance with a contemporary coastal feel seamlessly blends throughout the Clubhouse during a continuum of upgrades valued at more than $6 million.
Design experts literally "raised the roof" of the Ladies' Lounge and locker rooms to make a bright, light-filled space accented with beautiful marble floors, quartz countertops and new make-up stations stocked with everything ladies might need.
In the updated Men's Lounge, now called "The Club Room" and locker room, darker hues of brown and silver create a sporty tone.
Members enjoy new personalized Wine Lockers as part of Bay Colony's Wine Club, along with a completely renovated and expanded Club Room offering another casual dining venue for members.
Earthtone oversized porcelain tile sparkles on the outdoor patio that is graced with new furniture and umbrellas that are perfect for enjoying outdoor events like ever so popular Annual Patio Party.
The relocated elevator is convenient to the refreshed Pro Shop with its raised millwork ceiling, and the brand new Golf Services Portico welcomes members and guests to enjoy their round on the breathtaking golf course.
